Augusta Township – Hendrik Pape has officially announced his candidacy for re-election as Councillor in Augusta Township, launching a campaign built on responsible growth, improved connectivity, and continued transparency in local government.
“Serving Augusta Township has been an incredible privilege,” said Pape. “When I first ran, I made a commitment to listen, to be open, and to deliver real results for our community. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together — and I’m ready to keep building on that momentum.”
A Term of Tangible Progress:
During his first term, Pape helped advance a number of initiatives with direct, lasting impact for residents across the township.
Fibre broadband construction is now well underway, with approximately 90% of homes expected to be connected by the end of 2026 — a major milestone in closing Augusta’s digital divide.
Working collaboratively with Council, Pape championed stronger communication and transparency from council and the township. Key steps included hiring a communications coordinator, introducing council meeting highlights, expanding digital outreach, and increasing visibility at community events.
At the neighbourhood level, he delivered on commitments that matter to families: a new playground at Domville Park, and improved safety through reduced speed limits and enhanced traffic controls near parks and residential zones.
As Chair of Economic Development, Pape supported initiatives to promote Augusta and strengthen the local economy, including the launch of the long-anticipated Explore Augusta Map and the upcoming opening of a new community garden in Maynard. Alsowith Council, Pape also helped establish a new annual volunteer appreciation event to honour the individuals who give so much to this community.
Looking Ahead: Five Priorities for a Second Term:
1. Closing the Digital Divide:
- Pape will continue working to ensure every resident has access to high-speed internet, while advocating for reliable cellular service across all carriers.
2. Supporting Responsible Growth:
- Pape is committed to ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with development, moving housing forward thoughtfully while continuing to attract investment and workforce opportunities to support industrial expansion.
3. Planning for Families:
- Pape will continue advocacy with the Province to secure a new school for Augusta Township — ensuring families have access to education close to home.
4. Growing the Local Economy and Tourism:
- Building on recent momentum, Pape plans to promote Augusta as a place to live, work, and invest — expanding tourism through local events, community partnerships, and year-round programming.
5. Transparent, Community-Centred Governance:
- Pape remains committed to open communication, thoughtful decision making, and keeping residents informed and engaged.
Pape will be connecting with residents throughout the coming months to hear their ideas and priorities.
“This campaign is about moving forward together,” he said. “Augusta is growing — and my focus is making sure we grow the right way, with transparency, thoughtful planning, and a strong sense of community.”
