Brockville – The third annual Paul Gill Memorial Fishing Derby is being held on Saturday, July 25th, at Hardy Park in Brockville.
The event is in support of Their Opportunity, a grassroots children’s sport charity that empowers youth through the power of sport and recreation programs, and removes the barriers keeping children from playing sports.
“This day gives us a chance to bring the community together to support children in sports, while continuing Paul’s legacy and spending the day out on the water doing something he loved,” said Reese Davidson, Social Events Coordinator with Their Opportunity.
Anglers head out on the St. Lawrence River for a memorable day on the water, surrounded by one of Ontario’s most scenic and rewarding fishing environments.
The launch/start for the fishing derby begins at 6:00am where Participants head out for the fishing derby portion of the day.
Also, fun at Hardy Park, where families can enjoy an energetic festival atmosphere with vendors, games, food, entertainment, and activities designed to make the day welcoming for all ages, runs from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
During the day kids will also have the opportunity to partake in their Kids Learn to Fish program. They have four different categories for participants with thousands of dollars worth of prizing for the biggest winners of the day. If you’re not a fisher, no problem! They have tons of family friendly activities around the park for all ages to participate in.
Over the first two years of this event they have raised over $65,000 for Their Opportunity, helping over 200 youth break down barriers and participate in local physical health and wellness programs.
All the money that they raise through the Paul Gill Memorial Fishing Derby continues to go back into the community funding local youth sports and recreation initiatives right here in Brockville.
The derby celebrates Paul Gill’s life, his love of fishing, and his reputation as a generous community builder whose influence continues to inspire others.
