Gananoque Police Investigating Death in Gananoque River

Gananoque – Gananoque Police are continuing to investigate the death of a person located in the Gananoque River on July 12th, 2026.

Police say a postmortem examination was conducted, and no conclusive cause of death has been determined. Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner are treating the case as non-suspicious.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Gananoque Police began the investigation after a deceased individual was located in the Gananoque River in the morning of Sunday, July 12th. At approximately 11:00am, as officers responded to the report of the deceased person in the Gananoque River near Black Bridge.

Police say the individual was discovered by members of the public who were paddling in the area.

With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police East Region Forensic Identification Unit and the Gananoque Fire Service, the deceased was recovered from the river.

The Gananoque Police Service thanks the public for their cooperation while emergency personnel responded to the incident.
