
Leeds CTY. – Two Leeds County men are facing 84 charges, including gun charges and a sexual assault charge after Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident on July 5th.
According to a news release from the Leeds OPP, officers responded to a “reported incident” around 9:30pm on Sunday, July 5, which prompted them to begin an investigation.
A search warrant was executed by OPP officers at the home, where they seized more than 30 firearms, including restricted and prohibited guns, and more than 50 firearms-related items, like ammunition and magazines, and one crossbow.
A 72-year-old Leeds County man has been charged with sexual assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, and prohibited device or ammunition. He also faces 26 counts of knowledge of the unauthorized possession of a firearm and 25 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
A 69-year-old man is facing multiple charges, including 16 counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, 26 counts of knowledge of the unauthorized possession of a firearm and 25 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
The 72-year-old remains in custody while the 69-year-old was released. The allegations have not been proven in court.
Police said several specialized OPP units helped execute a search warrant, including the Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, Community Street Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services.
Police also said the names of the accused cannot be released in order to protect the privacy of the victim.
