SIU Investigating After A 43-Year-Old Man Sought By Repeat Offender Squad Suffered Serious Injury During Arrest in Prescott

Prescott – Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has begun an investigation after members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement made up of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers and Ottawa Police Service (OPS) arrested a 43-year-old man sought by the repeat offender squad who was seriously injured during an arrest on Monday in Prescott.

OPP said in a media release that just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27th members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad took an individual into custody on Prescott Centre Drive in Prescott.

According to police, during an altercation, the individual sustained a serious injury and was transported to the hospital.

At this point the OPP contacted the SIU, which invoked its mandate and that the OPP will not comment further on the incident during the investigation.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that has jurisdiction over municipal, regional and provincial police officers. The Unit is independent of any police service and operates at arm’s length from the Ministry of the Attorney General.
