SIU Investigating Police Shooting in Brockville

Brockville – The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a police shooting that occurred on Thursday night in Downtown Brockville.

The Brockville Police Service had posted on their Facebook page around 9:15 pm Thursday night stating that their was a large police presence in the area of King Street West and Broad Street in Downtown Brockville.

Police were asking that the public avoid the area and allow investigators the space to perform their duties.

“There is no active threat to safety and additional information will be released at a later time,” police said at the time.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) then posted on their Facebook page saying that on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the OPP East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit was assisting the Brockville Police Service in the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Brockville.

They said that during the interaction, police discharged their firearm. One individual was transported to the hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

The OPP notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP and Brockville Police are not able to provide further information.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency in Ontario that has jurisdiction over municipal, regional and provincial police officers, as well as police officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, special constables employed by the Niagara Parks Commission and peace officers with the Legislative Protective Service.
