Criminal Negligence Charge Laid by OPP for Fatal Boat Capsizing on St. Lawrence River in Thousand Islands Area on April 25th

Leeds & Thousand Islands TWP. – Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they have laid criminal negligence causing death charges after a boat capsized on the St. Lawrence River on April 25th, leaving an Ottawa man dead.

Charged is a 46-year-old Mallorytown man who was arrested by OPP on Monday.

On Saturday, April 25th Leeds County OPP responded shortly after 10:00 am to reports of a capsized boat on the St. Lawrence River, north of Grenadier Island in the Thousand Islands area.

Police said that a 15‑foot aluminum vessel with multiple occupants on board had overturned, and one individual was reported unaccounted for.

The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service located one person unresponsive in the water. The individual, a 41‑year‑old man from Ottawa, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where the was later pronounced deceased.
