Brockville’s City Manager Sandra MacDonald Announces Retirement After 32 Years

Brockville – The City of Brockville announces the upcoming retirement of City Manager Sandra MacDonald, effective March 31, 2027, following more than 32 years of service with the City.

Sandi began her career with the City of Brockville in 1994 as a Financial Systems Analyst in the Operations Department. She went on to serve as Deputy Clerk beginning in 2000 and City Clerk beginning in 2004. In November 2021, Sandi assumed the role of Interim City Manager before being appointed City Manager in April 2022.

Throughout her career, Sandi has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and to the City of Brockville. Her extensive municipal knowledge and collaborative approach have helped guide the organization through periods of change, operational challenges and significant community initiatives.

Over more than three decades, Sandi has worked alongside numerous Councils and generations of City staff, developing a deep understanding of the organization and the community it serves. Her leadership, knowledge and commitment have earned the respect of colleagues across the organization and have made a lasting contribution to the City.

On behalf of City employees, we thank Sandi for her leadership, guidance and dedication throughout her career. Many staff members have had the opportunity to work alongside Sandi and have benefited from her knowledge, encouragement and support.

With Sandi’s retirement planned for March 31, 2027, the City is beginning the recruitment process for its next City Manager. A selection committee consisting of Mayor Matt Wren and two members of Council will oversee the initial selection process and establish a shortlist of candidates.

Given the timing of the 2026 municipal election, both mayoral candidates have been consulted on the approach. The final selection process will take place following the election and will be the responsibility of the incoming Mayor and Council.

Beginning the recruitment process now will provide time for a thorough search and support a smooth transition in leadership ahead of Sandi’s retirement.

Sandi will continue to serve as City Manager until March 31, 2027. We wish her all the very best as she prepares for this next chapter and thank her for more than 32 years of dedicated service to the City of Brockville.
