Police Safely Apprehend Man After Reports of a Mental Health Crisis

Brockville – On October 16, 2026, at approximately 1:30pm, officers with the Brockville Police Service responded to multiple 911 calls at an apartment complex located at 760 Laurier Boulevard.

The calls involved a 25-year-old male experiencing a mental health crisis.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, members of the Brockville Police Service Emergency Response Team attended to help ensure the safety of everyone involved.

The subject was in possession of a knife and a large canister of wildlife defense aerosol (bear spray). After several hours of attempts to safely resolve the incident, assistance was requested from the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

The individual was ultimately apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for an assessment. During the apprehension, the wildlife defense aerosol was deployed on the officers. While the officers were protected, this affected multiple units in the building.

No serious injuries were reported.

The subject will be held for a bail hearing in relation to the charges of:

  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

To protect the privacy of the individual involved, no further details will be released.

The Brockville Police Service would like to thank the Brockville Fire Department, Leeds and Grenville Paramedic Service, and the OPP for their assistance and continued partnership in helping ensure the safety of our communities.
