Brockville — Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9th, the Brockville Fire Department (BFD) responded to a structure fire at 4 Balmoral Place.
Due to the number of occupants inside the building, Leeds County Paramedic Service and Brockville Police Service were called to assist with emergency management, evacuation and scene control.
Upon arrival, officers conducted a systematic search of the building, clearing each floor and ensuring all residents were safely evacuated.
During the response, management at Stingers on Stewart Blvd generously opened their facility to serve as a staging and warming area for displaced residents. Their support provided a safe and comfortable space for those awaiting updates.
BFD has determined that the fire is not suspicious in nature.
Tragically, one pet in the affected apartment did not survive. A second pet was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to Island City Animal Hospital, where the animal is expected to make a full recovery.
Island City Animal Hospital provided their services at no charge, demonstrating remarkable compassion during a difficult moment.
