Driver Fails to Stop for Police & Collides with Two OPP Vehicles

Leeds County – A driver is facing criminal charges after failing to stop for police and colliding with two police vehicles.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members of the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were requested to assist after a blue sedan failed to stop for officers from the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP Detachment.

Police located the vehicle travelling on Highway 401. Officers successfully brought the vehicle to a stop. During this time, the driver attempted to evade police and drove the vehicle into two police vehicles. There were no injuries to the driver, the public or to officers.

As part of the investigation, police seized almost ten grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Sergei VINSHEL, 42-years-old of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance
  • Fail to stop for police

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville later today.
