
Brockville – Brockville City Council met on April 28, 2026. Below are highlights from the meeting.
Community Living Month:
Council proclaimed May as Community Living Month in Brockville, following a request from the Brockville & Area Community Living Association, and approved flying the Community Living flag from May 4 to 8. This recognition helps raise awareness and supports authentic inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Doctor’s Day:
Council proclaimed May 1 as Doctor’s Day in Brockville, following a request from the Ontario Medical Association, and will illuminate the Brockville Arts Centre in blue. This recognition is in celebration of the physicians in Ontario who tirelessly care for our communities.
Councillor Appointed to HART Hub Committee:
Council appointed Councillor Severson to represent the City on the HART Hub Committee. The committee brings together community partners and stakeholders to share input, identify local needs, and support how the Hub operates. She will provide regular updates to Council on its progress.
2025 Annual Building & Bylaw Services Activity Report:
Council received the 2025 Building and Bylaw Services Activity Report, which provides an overview of construction activity, permits, inspections, and bylaw enforcement across the city. A total of 346 building permits were issued, with an estimated construction value of $119.5 million, the highest level recorded in the City to date.
Planning Department Annual Report 2025:
Council received the 2025 Planning Department Annual Report, which provides an overview of development activity and planning work across the city. The report highlights continued growth, with strong interest in both residential and non-residential development and a high number of planning and building-related applications throughout the year.
Tourism Bicycle Rental Program Approved:
Council approved a new bicycle rental program through Brockville Tourism, building on the success of last summer’s kayak rentals. From May to September, rentals will be available at the Visitors Information Centre on a first come, first serve basis, with options by the hour, half day, or full day and including helmets and locks. Rental rates will apply and be set through the City’s user fee bylaw.
Continued Funding for Healthcare Recruitment Campaign:
Council approved $25,000 in funding for the Brockville General Hospital “Imagine Brockville Life” recruitment campaign, supported through the City’s Health-Care Levy. The campaign has helped attract healthcare workers to the community, with 23 new hires to date, and will continue supporting efforts to address staffing needs at the local hospital.
Bartholomew Street Traffic Configuration:
Council approved a change to make Bartholomew Street one-way southbound between Pearl Street and King Street East as part of the upcoming reconstruction project. The change will help improve traffic flow and safety on the narrow downtown street, which was originally built for a different era of transportation.
Library Hours Expanding in June:
Councillor Wales shared an update from the Brockville Public Library Board that library hours will be extended following a recent service review. Starting in June, the library will be open Mondays from 1 to 5 p.m., and will extend hours on Wednesdays and Fridays until 5 p.m.
Upcoming DBIA Events:
Councillor Deery shared an update from the Downtown Business Improvement Area, highlighting the upcoming Ladies Night: Friends Edition on May 1. The event is part of a broader lineup of Shop the Street events planned throughout the year to bring activity and visitors downtown.
