Impaired Driving Continues at a High Rate Say Brockville Police

Brockville – The Brockville Police Service say impaired driving continues at a high rate. Between July 3rd and 4th police said they arrested and charged four individuals in relation to impaired driving incidents.

“Despite significant penalties, ongoing safety campaigns, and the tragic consequences associated with impaired driving, some drivers continue to get behind the wheel while impaired. The following are the details of the four arrests,” said Brockville Police.

On July 3, 2026, at approximately 10:00pm, officers observed a vehicle travelling on North Augusta Road at 94km/h in a posted 50km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as a 25-year-old male. Police suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol and administered a roadside screening breath test. The driver failed the test and was arrested. He was transported to the Brockville Police Station for further testing, which confirmed impairment.

As a result, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s licence was suspended. The driver was released with a future court date after being charged with operation while impaired by alcohol, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg, and stunt driving – excessive speed.

On July 3, 2026, at approximately 11:00pm, police received a complaint regarding a tractor trailer in the area of Jefferson Drive. The complainant reported concerning noises and raised concerns about the safety of the vehicle on the road. The tractor trailer left the area and police later located it on North Augusta Road.

The vehicle was stopped and officers spoke with the 50-year-old male driver. Police suspected alcohol consumption and demanded a roadside breath sample. The driver was provided multiple opportunities to comply; however, he refused to provide a sample.

As a result, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s licence was suspended. The driver was released with a future court date after being charged with refusal to comply with demand.

On July 4, 2026, at approximately 5:30am, police were contacted regarding a pick-up truck blocking a live lane of traffic on Balmoral Place, with the driver reportedly passed out behind the wheel.

Officers arrived and located a 44-year-old male in the driver’s seat. Police observed obvious signs of impairment, along with drug paraphernalia visible in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Brockville Police Service for testing by a Drug Recognition Expert.

Following testing, it was determined that the driver was impaired by drugs. The vehicle was impounded and the driver’s licence was seized. The driver was released with a future court date after being charged with operation while impaired by drugs and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

On July 4, 2026, at approximately 7:00pm, police were contacted by a concerned citizen who reported seeing a vehicle reverse into a tree on King Street West near Finnegan’s Tavern.

Officers responded and located the 40-year-old driver described by the complainant standing beside his vehicle without shoes on. Empty alcohol beverage cans were visible in plain view inside the vehicle. A roadside breath sample was demanded; however, the driver refused to provide a sample.

As a result, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s licence was suspended. The driver was released with a future court date after being charged with refusal to comply with demand.
