Brockville — Ontario will invest $1,491,526 this year to complete upgrades and repairs at local hospitals and community healthcare facilities, creating safer, more comfortable spaces for people and their families to connect to care and services in their home communities, Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes announced today.

“Our government understands that supporting our local hospitals and healthcare facilities means investing in the infrastructure that’s vital for frontline workers to deliver world-class care to patients,” said MPP Clark. “I’ve been proud to champion healthcare investments across Leeds and Grenville, and I want to thank Minister Jones for continuing to strengthen our local system so patients and their families can access care close to home.”

The funding was provided through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) and Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund (CIRF), which enable healthcare system partners to address their urgent infrastructure needs including upgrading or replacing roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms, and emergency generators.

Since 2024, the Ontario government has increased funding through HIRF by 10 per cent each year, allowing even more hospitals to complete upgrades and repairs in a timely manner. As part of this year’s investment of over $266 million in HIRF to support 126 hospitals across the province, the following investments are being made locally:

  • · Brockville General Hospital $705,327
  • · Kemptville District Hospital $552,421

“We are grateful to the Provincial Government’s investment in improving our aging infrastructures,” said Julie Caffin, President and CEO, Brockville General Hospital. “This funding enables Brockville General to complete essential repairs and upgrades that enhance our facilities and support the delivery of high-quality care. By replacing aging roofing and flooring and modernizing visitor elevators, we are maintaining safety, creating more accessibility, and welcoming spaces for patients, visitors, and everyone working in our buildings. Thank you to MPP Clark for his continued support of our hospital.”

“We are incredibly grateful for this HIRF funding, which will allow Kemptville District Hospital to replace six aging rooftop HVAC units at the KDH Health Centre. This investment in critical infrastructure will help ensure a safe, comfortable, and reliable environment for our patients, staff, visitors, and community partners,” said Frank Vassallo, President and CEO, Kemptville District Hospital. “By addressing aging equipment and supporting ongoing code compliance, this funding strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality care and services today and into the future. We sincerely thank MPP Steve Clark for his unwavering advocacy and the Ministry of Health for recognizing the importance of this project and for its continued support of healthcare infrastructure in our region.”

For CIRF, Ontario has doubled its investment in the program since 2018 to a total of nearly $15 million this year, supporting 67 community health service providers across the province. In Leeds and Grenville, that funding will support the following organizations:

  • · Rideau Community Health Services $153,410
  • · Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health $48,276
  • · Country Roads Community Health Centre $32,092

“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s healthcare system, ensuring that more people in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This investment will enable these local hospitals and community health organizations to address priority infrastructure needs so patients and their families can continue to access vital services and care in their community.”

Over the next 10 years, Ontario is investing approximately $64 billion in major health infrastructure. This is part of the government’s plan to get shovels in the ground on more than 50 major hospital projects across the province, which will deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds to enhance access to quality care and build a connected, people-first health-care system.

Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is expanding and modernizing hospitals and building new health-care facilities, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
