Gananoque – On September 23, 2024, during the evening hours, officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s licence. The individual was subsequently identified and found to be driving while suspended. Further investigation revealed the 39year-old driver was also bound by a release order on unrelated charges, which included a curfew condition.
The driver was arrested and searched, and officers located a knife and cash on their person. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a collapsible steel baton, a knife, a scale, a pipe, and approximately 29.6 grams of methamphetamine.
As a result, the 39-year-old resident of Elgin was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — methamphetamine, Possession of a Weapon Contrary to a Prohibition Order, Breach of Recognizance, and Driving While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.
On April 2, 2026, the accused was convicted of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking — methamphetamine, and Breach of Recognizance. The Ontario Court of Justice granted 213 days of pre-sentence custody credit for time served and imposed a suspended sentence with 18 months of probation. The accused was also issued a lifetime weapons prohibition.
