
LEEDS AND THOUSAND ISLANDS TWP. – One person has died following a boating incident on the St. Lawrence River.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., officers from the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a capsized boat on the St. Lawrence River, north of Grenadier Island. A 15‑foot aluminum vessel with multiple occupants on board had overturned, and one individual was reported unaccounted for.
The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service located one person unresponsive in the water. The individual, a 41‑year‑old from Ottawa, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team.
