Brockville – The Brockville Rowing Club (BRC) christened their new eight person racing shell, ‘The Goose 71’ on Saturday morning at the Brockville Rowing Club, along with awarding of the Doug Marshall Trophy to Calla Webster.

Athletes, alumni, community leaders and supporters were in attendance on Saturday first for the special award presentation of the C. Doug Marshall Trophy celebrating rowing excellence and community leadership to Calla Webster.
The second part of the event was the christening of BRC 8+ “The Goose 71”. The eight was generously donated by Steve ‘The Goose’ Warwick who along with Rick Mallory, Bill Earl, Jim Earl, John Armitage, Ray Fournier, Bill Cody, Wes Curran and Jim Baker raced an eight in 1971.
After the christening, some of the 1971 rowers with current rowers went out in the Goose on the river.
The Brockville Rowing Club has been a fixture on the St. Lawrence River since 1894 and recently celebrated 130 years of rowing history. The club offers programs for all ages and skill levels, including youth camps, learn-to-row, high school rowing, recreational and masters rowing, dryland training, and competitive development programs.
Known throughout the rowing community as a small club that consistently “punches above its weight,” the BRC has developed athletes who have gone on to provincial, national and international competition, while remaining deeply rooted in community participation and accessibility.
