Ian Roberts Announces Candidacy for Brockville City Council

Brockville – Ian Roberts has announced he is running for a spot on Brockville City Council this October.

He posted the following on Facebook recently.

Hi. My name is Ian Roberts and I am running for city council.

I am a Brockville native, married with 3 step-children one of whom lives here and 7 grandchildren. I graduated from TISS and St. Lawrence College in Business Administration – Finance. I also have a degree from Carleton University in Political Science and Mass Communications.

Currently I am serving on the Board of Commissioners for the St. Lawrence Park Commission. Before retiring I worked in the federal government first in Collections and then IT mostly with Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Coast Guard.

This is my first ever foray as a candidate in any election but have worked in the background in provincial politics some time ago. I was a riding president for a time in a Scarborough riding and worked in the provincial cabinet office of former Senator Runciman.

My Platform:

• Make council more accountable by re-establishing a finance committee to review all transfers such as money to Aquatarium
• Reinstate annual audit of the city finances
• Limit all tax increases to no more than the inflation rate, but less is better
• Return to ward system making councillors more accountable
• Remove any remaining bureaucratic barriers to redevelopment of the Brockville Shopping Centre and Woolworth properties and possibly create a citizen committee to focus on Woolworths.
• Increase police presence in the downtown core. Particularly during special event and late night
• Improve tourism by seeking joint ventures and increase seasonal dining options in tourist areas

Roberts joins Randy Chase, Chris Culhane, Ida Duc, Jill Duffin, Jeremy Newman, Bianca Timmerman and current councillor Louise Severson who have officially register for a spot on city council as of Friday, july 31, 2026.

The municipal elections in Ontario take place on Monday, October 26, 2026.
