Yellow – Severe Thunderstorm Watch For Brockville & Leeds-Grenville for This Afternoon & Evening

Brockville – Environment Canada has issued a Yellow – Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Brockville, Prescott, Merrickville, North Grenville, Mallorytown, Gananoque, Charleston Lake, and Westport.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain this afternoon and evening.

Hazards:

  • Wind gusts up to 90 km/h.
  • Quarter to ping pong ball size hail.
  • Locally heavy rainfall with amounts up to 50 mm.
  • Risk of a tornado.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop or move into the region this afternoon and continue to affect the area into this evening. Some storms could become severe with strong winds, large hail and heavy rain. Conditions may become favourable for some storms to produce tornadoes, but confidence in any tornado threat is low.

Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.

Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Secure loose objects.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on social media using #ONStorm.
