Man Arrested After Following an Ambulance While Impaired by Drugs

Brockville – Brockville Police say a 39-year-old male driver was noticed following a Leeds & Grenville Paramedics Ambulance around 8:45 pm on September 6th after city police were in the area of King St. W. and Home St., involved in an unrelated matter where someone required medical attention.

Police said paramedics were called for the unrelated matter and as they were on route, it was noticed that the 39-year-old, driver was following the Ambulance. The vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, noted police, at one point passing in front of the Ambulance and running red lights.

The driver followed the Ambulance to the location where the officers were, who stopped the driver and after a short conversation, police recognized that the man was impaired from drugs. The man was arrested and taken to a Drug Recognition Expert for further assessment.

He was also found to have a quantity of cocaine, according to police.

The man’s driver’s licence was suspended, his vehicle towed and the man was charged with operation while impaired by drugs, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure or refusal to comply with demand and possession of cocaine.

Police say he was released on conditions with a future court date.
