Brockville – Brockville Police responded to two separate threatening phone calls received by staff at Walmart on the afternoon and evening of April 26, 2026.
At approximately 4:30pm, police were notified that Walmart staff had received a phone call from a subject claiming that explosive devices had been placed inside the store. As a precaution, the store was safely evacuated, and officers attended immediately. The OPP EDU (Explosive Disposal Unit) was consulted, and a thorough assessment of the premises was conducted. No suspicious items were located, and there were no injuries.
Police were later notified of a second threatening call at approximately 8:00pm, believed to be from the same individual. Officers again promptly attended the area, and conducted a detailed sweep of the store after it had been cleared. The building was determined to be safe, and staff were able to complete endofday procedures under police supervision. All employees exited the store without incident.
Investigators have determined that no devices or weapons were present at any time. The matter remains under investigation as police continue to attempt to identify the source of the calls. There have been multiple reports that are similar in nature in other jurisdictions; however, any links to those investigations has not been determined.
Police take all threats seriously and respond with an abundance of caution to promote the safety of all involved. The public is reminded to be aware regardless of any threat, and in the event of any immediate concern for safety, call 911.
