
Gananoque – The Gananoque Islanders won a 5-4 decision in overtime over the Westport Lumberjacks on Saturday in EOSHL action at the Lou Jeffries.
The Lumberjacks got on the board first with a goal from #15 Tyler Murphy (#12 Michael Anson, #11 Chad Moore) in the first period.
In the second period, #24 Andrew Dekroon would score Westport’s second goal of the game. #16 Colin Brown (#15 Tyson Moore, #11 Mason Mangan) and #24 Cole Busschaert (#61 Ryan Verbeek) each would score one for Gananoque to tie the game. Lumberjack’s #88 Mitchell Larabie (#79 Matt Halle) would score one in the second to give Westport a 3-2 lead at the end of the period.
#79 Matt Halle (#12 Michael Anson) would score one in the third period for the Lumberjacks, followed by two goals for the Islanders from #24 Cole Busschaert (#72 Cody Smith, #5 Jack Wiley) his second of the game and #61 Ryan Verbeek (#8 Graeme Brown) to tie the game at 4-4, sending it to overtime.
Gananoque’s #8 Graeme Brown (#24 Cole Busschaert) would score the game-winning goal at 1:52 in overtime.
The Islanders outshot the Lumberjacks 36 to 32 during the game.
Westport will host the Smiths Falls Rideaus this Saturday afternoon at the Westport Community Arena. Game time is 3:00 pm.
Gananoque will host the Lindsay Barncats on Saturday night starting at 7:30 pm at the Lou Jeffries.
